Our method

Heroic viticulture and resistant vineyards

Vinessa // Chapter two

Vinessa is a heroic viticulture

Altitude, the slope of the vineyards, and an absence of chemical treatments are just some of the features of our viticulture, defined as heroic precisely because of the unique conditions in which the vines grow, at altitudes from 720 to 800 metres above sea level. We deal with a terrain where harvest mechanisation, processing and movement are all more complicated, due to the slopes and presence of rocky outcrops.

LOW YIELD PER VINE HANDPICKED SELECTION

Little details make big wines.

The secret of mountain viticulture is a low yield per vine. Only in this way can grapes ripen perfectly, achieving the characteristics demanded of top-quality wine.

In viticulture, the details make all the difference, and even more so in mountain winemaking.

The excellent condition of grapes is essential for a high-quality late harvest.

Vigneti PIWI

Pure, organic, resistant

Vinessa vines, with their natural ability to defend themselves from fungal disease, are classed as resistant (Piwi) varieties.

The vines are a hybrid of European and Asian vines, and it is the latter which gives them their quality of resistance. This means they require minimal phytosanitary treatments, thus reducing the consumption of water, CO2 emissions and soil compaction. But that’s not all: the use of solely natural products for organic farming fully respects the uncontaminated environment where the Vinessa vineyards are located.

Long live our method

The quality of our wine begins with the agronomic management of the vineyard: there is a strong link between healthy and balanced vines and the final result in the bottle.

A strict and precise process, together with the territory’s climate and soil characteristics, enables harvesting of the top-quality grapes that are the life force of Vigneti Vinessa wine.
ORGANIC MATTER GREEN MANURE

From the soil

We have a holistic approach: from organic matter accretion to the stabilisation of nutrients in order to promote balanced growth of the vines.

We use bovine manure from local cowsheds, and earthworm humus to improve the organic content of the soil. We sow mixtures of essences between the rows, thus creating a meadow of flowers and herbs that increase pollinators and maintain the equilibrium of the eco-system.

We also implement controlled and alternate grassing to regenerate the soil and prevent erosion.

To the vine

To achieve a balanced development during the entire phenological cycle, we adopt a pruning approach aimed at containing the yield per vine, as well as practices such as topping and defoliation to optimise the leaf surface of the vines.

Pre-harvesting selection of the clusters completes the maturation stage: this influences not only the quality but also the overall health of the plants, reducing the need for phytosanitary treatments, thanks also to the resistance of the varieties that we grow.

CARE PASSION RESPECT
met-6

An artisan approach based on precision

From the vineyard to the wine cellar, we dedicate care, passion and respect at every stage: from the harvesting of grapes, where each cluster is selected and cleaned manually to guarantee maximum quality, to their careful transportation in low-depth small boxes in order to avoid squashing the grapes and causing oxidative damage.

We harvest single plots at a time, because the grapes ripen at different rates according to their altitude and position in the vineyard.
